Neptune

Neptune is the furthest planet away from the sun. It is the fourth largest planet and it takes 165 years to make a complete orbit of the sun, also, Neptune is classified as a gas giant. A day on Neptune is only 16 hour because Neptune has a very fast rotation.

The atmosphere on Neptune is composed of 80% Hydrogen, 19% Helium and the remaining 1% is of other elements that may exist on Neptune.

Because Neptune is mainly composed of gases, it is classified as a gas giant. It is believed that Neptune, like the other gas giants also have a rocky and solid core, Neptune’s would have consisted of ice and rock particles compressed together.

Neptune also has several rings orbiting around the planet. The rings are made up of ice particles with silicates or carbon coated on.

Neptune is known for its high winds and severe storms. Like Jupiter, Neptune has its own anti-cyclonic system. It is known as “The Great Dark Spot”. It is approximately the size of Earth. There are other storms on Neptune as well, white clouds rush around Neptune and can be usually seen next to The Great Dark Spot.
